I don't which is worse:: Toy-deathtrap-ota saying piss on Americans, we won't do a thng until forced to; or the American officials, & business people who knew of this but kept quiet.
If this article is factual, regarding State Farm's knowledge as early as 2003, concerning the accelaration problem with certain Toyota vehicles, I believe; as a State Farm policy holder, the insurer had an obligation to inform it's policy holders of this information. Or at least inform the general public. After all, when an insurance provider speaks, everyone listens
I would wager, no such warning came forth. Nor has the federal safety regulators done so, of course until the problem could no longer be ignored and countless people lost thier lives. It's no wonder why we as consumers have no product loyalty or trust of others. From gov't to private industry, it's a real big problem....
You always hear about crap like this after the fact. Someone always wants to jump up and say "I knew about it a long time ago." If it is true than State Farm should be sued for not bringing it to the public's attention. I assume they continued to collect insuarnce premiums from the Toyota drivers that are insured with them. If they were so concerned then they would have denied insurance for a dangerous vehicle. I can see the advertisements on TV now saying that people should insure with them because they are looking out for you and they knew two years before anyone else of the Toyota problems, but not going public with the information is going to bite them in the ass so I guess they'd better rethink...
Let's see... The acceleration problems with Toyota's cars were reported to the NHTSA back in 2007? Let's see you guys find a way to blame THIS ONE on Obama.
One more thing: Why did it take State Farm THREE YEARS before telling the public that they'd been reporting Toyota's problems to the federal safety gurus? Hindsight is 20/20, huh? State Farm should have said something as soon as they noticed the recurring acceleration reports by their customers.
2007? Gee, thanks dubya, for sweeping that little inconvenience under the rug. I wonder how many people died because of the bush/cheney incompetence in this matter.
Regardless! Toyota buyers will still buy Toyota the same GM buyers still buy GM. I just took my Buick in for a recall on spark plug wires because it could start a engine fire. Who's to blame State Farm or the engineer that design car?
Toyota have problems??How many issues were their with the domestic brands??PLENTY..And you scream about Toyota??If you drive one and your gas petal sticks??Put in neutral and pull the car off the road??FORD and GM have had more troubles than this in the past and far worse..I'll stick with Toyota no matter what..The USA may have invented the auto,BUT Japan perfected it..
John L ...no recall on pills but I did hear many people are throwing out the kool aid in droves!
Toyota sucks buy American!
HAHAHAHAHA....TOYOTA STILL A MUCH BETTER CAR THAN 99% OF THE OTHER MANUFACTURERS....ITS A SHAME THIS HAPPENED TO A GREAT CAR COMPANY.
FUNNY THING IS - THIS IS THE ONLY THING THE LIBERAL IDIOTS THAT RUN THE GOV'T CAN SAY IS "POSITIVE" FOR THEM...AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Our govt watchdogs were asleep again. While oblowme was out getting browner. He was too worried about insulting the jap's. All this while chrysler opens a plant in mexico. Boy we are getting screwed all around. Maybe it is time for the revolution.
Yeah, our gubment is really looking out for US.
"NHTSA received complaints about acceleration problems in Toyota vehicles as early as 2003, and congressional investigators are looking into whether the government missed warning signs of the problems"
This was no major concern...We were fighting the WAR and Toyota was beating out GM, Ford, and Dodge. Who cares. I drive a VW
Gee. Another democrat scam to funnel money to the tort lawyers who in turn donate more money to the democrat party than even the Chinese Communist Party.
Do they really think the American public it too dumb to see through this?
Rock the vote America. It's time to put an end to the democrat party for good.
Well at least State Farm tried. But I am curious if State Farm decided to charge higher premiums to Toyota drivers because of their findings.
Watch these! We are under attack as a nation!

How about this. Obama and his administration knew all about this but waited until the US became a car company, GM and Chrysler, to announce any problems so the American Companies would profit from Toyota's problems. Really, why don't we stop blaming people and inform the government we want them to do a better job at consumer protection without creating another commission to study the problems.
Wow. Somehow there's always an idiot that blames it on Obama/Bush. Corporations are rarely hold accountable until sh*t hits the fan. Either way if the government steps in or not people are still gonna be pissed off. Some will say it would be abuse of power for a government to step in a corporation's biz, while others will say the government protects no one. It's a no-win situation.
Fun to see the idiots that still think japanese cars are 'deathtraps", as well as the idiots that still think toyota quality is superior to domestic. 50 years ago, japanese cars were cheap and light, easily crushed by larger american cars in collisions. 15 years ago, japanese cars were the generally rated higher in quality than domestics, but the japanese ratings have fallen while domestics have risen, closing the gaps considerably. Not to mention the fact that the assemble japanese cars in the U.S., and domestics all over the globe now.
Ya right! Since when did State Farm give a s*** about anything other than did you make your payment on time? What a fukin joke. SF suks
This is another example of regulation in this country being gutted by Corporate business interest.
How many recalls on Autos, food, drugs etc does it take for Americans to realize the Corporate Types are causing the regulatory bodies like the NHTSA, the USDA and FDA to not properly do their jobs, which is to ensure the safety of Autos, Food and Drugs that are sold in this Country, and why is this happening, because it all get down to one simple reason GREED!!! They continue to lobby for further relaxation of regulation so they can make more money. Who do you think Toyota is most concerned about right now the consumer or the Regulators, they are running scared on what the NHTSA's investigation is going to find
I don't doubt State Farm for one minute. Our govt. bureaucracy has been damn near useless for 30 years and it never changes except for the worse thanks to the leftists in congress.
Once honorable Japanese have become Americanized. When they make mistakes that kill innocent people, they used to kill themselves. I was hoping that American govt. leaders would adopt Japanese honor techniques but instead, Japs have been co opted by American leaders who take care of no. 1 first.
State Farm is a joke! They jacked my rates because of a wreck (not my fault), then cancelled me after some of the payments. I told the agent to screww himself, I was going somewhere else. In Washington, you needed insurance. I took the bus for a few months to save up to buy another car. The agent was asking my dad, behind my back if I had a new insurance company, and my dad said no. The agent told him to get my license, because it was against the law to drive without insurance. I wasn't driving. I was taking the bus. The guy was a POS. It turns out, most of the people that I know that had State Farm had similar stories. They were dishonest, coniving POSs. Everyone I know who HAD them droppped them. STATE FARM IS ONE HUGE POS!!
I believe that State Farm did their part by telling the proper people of this. It is not State Farms fault that some government people did not follow through. Probably a pay off some where in there.
Confucius says: The higher they are - the harder they fall.
When a company gets so big and has an even higher tight-nit hierarchy (Asian management) than American companies, which is what can make them great, it is also what can also pull them apart just as easily.
The United States ingenuity from its melting pot society makes it 10x stronger than any nation on Earth (but it takes times of adversity for us to realize it), and the same industriousness that defeated Eastern Military Ventures and other closed nit society mentality in WWII, is the same ingenuity that may eventually prevail here. American's big 3, may of had a few glitches along the way, but American cars have NEVER had a major accelerator problem for so long. That is a very basic quality problem that is deeply disturbing.
Are we talkin' it STARTED in 2003? OMG. What is a tad scary here is that management would let a potential but widespread problem slide out the door without bothering to investigate it.
hey 'whatThe" i thought the article said 2007 not 2003.
Somehow we should be able to track what official got the info and what they did with it..if it was covered up they should be brought to the front and explain their actions..if the reason(s) is not valid then put them in jail and revoke all their pensions etc.. include all the participants
I believe the government was not doing it job. Those here that want to see bigger government under Obama. I you are the first ones killed by these rolling death traps.
Obama has done nothing to alleviate lead coming from China in children's toys. Do you think, he is really concerned about the government owned union auto companies?
Americans following this jerk need to have some time with a shrink!!!!
