I am sick of hearing about smoking. Alcohol is much more dangerous and we don't have a Great American Drink Out.
Because smoking is nasty, that is why. It effects not only those who do it, but those who are unwillingly exposed to it. Alcohol is harmful to others at times too...why don't you do something about it and START a drink out day.
Smoking wouldn't bother me as much if persons would only do it in their home with no non-smokers exposed EVER. I can't tell you the times as a health professional I have seen sick children and spouses of smokers, who couldn't breathe because of what they are exposed to. Makes me ill.
Wayyyyy too much money in the drinking industry to do it like the tobacco was....drink drive kill, rob, murder divorce, adultry aqll from booze,, no action to booze out..Caugh , caugh, that awful smoke is gone, so all is well.
get rid of booze our colleges would shut down! Most of our gov leaders would suffer withdrawals..Industral CEO meetings could not function...Boose the cause and solution to our drunken america problems,, burpppp!
Notice that the areas with the highest percentage of smokers are also the areas where the people are the least educated.
It seems like the South has more smokers. Very informative. I thought the big cities would had the most.
What a bunch of phonies, you all want to cut out smoking, but you all want the tax revenue that it generates!
I see more problem with the fools out there driving and texting or talking on their cell phones. Add to that the very idea that if I wanted to own my own business I could not allow smoking in it, how is it that the government can be my partner and not allow me to have the freedom of an establishment that allows smoking. I would be all in favor of NOT allowing the whinny non-smokers in and just cater to the people that smoke.
Yes, the South...the least educated people. I'm from the South so I can bust on my own people. No one gave a damn about education except the select few of us...
I seriously question the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale stat. I just moved from that area and a large number of immigrants from Latin America and Europe smoke. I've also noticed it in other parts of Florida. As for the south having more smokers, I agree. It's not surprising that KY and NC have such a large smoking population as these are the biggest tobacco producers.
Least educated Cynthia????/ I'll bet ur from the left coast aren't you? Show me a study that proves that comment, please?!
I for one don't believe any of the smoker vs. non-smoker studies are even close to accurate. Next time you are at a red light after 5:00 pm look at the cars around you, I will bet you a dollar to a donut the percentages of people smoking are not even close to being accurate for your city. As for 2nd hand smoke let's just think about the studies that say it is worse than the person actually smoking. Think about that for a second. If I'm smoking aren't I also inhaling the 2nd hand smoke?
We all know it isn't good for you, but these so called studies and smoke out days are beyond a waste of time and resources.
i see these young girls at colleges smoking and they think there so cool, they think there going to live forever, etc idiots................
Have you ever noticed how non-smokers are such self rightous, pompas, and do things just to be in style? Its in style now to be against smokers. When the wind changes direction, they will also. Its just too bad they cant really think for themselves. If they are so worried about what they breathe, they should park their cars. I would be willing to go into a garage and light 50 cartons of cigs on fire at once, If one of these non-smokers will have a car running in the garage next door. That crap kills in minutes, at least it takes 50 years for smoking to kill you, if it really does at all.................
Would love to see a report on the LUNG CANCER rate in the smokiest cities vs. the smoke-free cities...now that would be a piece of reporting.
It's about time California didn't fall into another nasty stereotype. It's nice to see multiple cities of my state fall into the most smoke free cities catagory! I was actually surprised to see this.
Lighten up - Have a drink - take off your clothes. I smoked for 30 years - quit cold turkey over a weekend. Never looked back. I know it has to come from within and for me it wasn't about will power over addiction. It was about letting go. I'd tell anyone they can do it and it's not as hard as you think. We've created a culture that says it hard. When you're ready it'll come. Just don't wait too long.
I think the dangers, of second hand smoke, are grossly overstated. Passing smoking bans has caused more trouble then helped. There are air filters that can significantly cut down, on the amount, of smoke in the air. Now all of these states are having to deal with the lost revenue from tobacco sales as well as a decline of tax revenue from liquor. The smoking ban, in Illinois has not made me cut down on smoking. It has made me cut down on going to bars. When people, who smoke, go to bars, they finish their drinks more quickly, so they can go outside to smoke. This creates a greater risk factor when they are driving home. So, what's next? Will MADD get into the act and propose bans on serving liquor to cut down on drunk driving?
Sterotyping.....People in the south are racist, stupid, un edcuated, red necked, lazy and have no teeth..People up North are wise, super educated. beautiful, smart very ambitious and they are now running the country. See what a good job they are doing..Did Bush have all his teeth?
Smoking has nothing to do with education how absurd that is. I'm a smoker & it's my choice & my business!!
Look cold turds dont smoke!!! How many of you want to hang with cold turds? Puff puff puff,, I'm hot baby! gimma some used smoke baby...
I don't care if people smoke. I smoked for 15 years and let me tell you the best thing I ever did was quit. Its a great feeling to finally kick the habit, you don't realize how much better you feel without cigs. I know its hard and takes a long time to quit, but stick with it, its something you can take real pride in. Of course it would be smarter to have never started in the first place.
Wait...I thought April 20 was International SmokeOut Day. Did I miss another one? Damn it...I'll just have to make up for it tonight when I get home.
All of you self-rightgeous do-gooders that think it is just absolutely terrible people smoke drink how much booze to salve your conscience???? Check your stats---how many people were in car wrecks that were smoking and how many were in car wrecks that had been or were drinking??? And killed how many??? Get real!!!! If you really are interested in doing something, tax the booze and the boozers like you tax the smokers. Then and only then will you REALLY accomplice something worthwhile.
I hope people start to quit after they saw these statistics. My sister is asthmatic and smoke has an adverse effect on her. People should stop smoking near high traffic areas and exposing people to second hand smoke.
Here's what I love most. Alcoholism is a sickness, Obesity (ya'll fat asses) is a sickness, Drug use is a sickness, Gamibling is a sickness......smoking (though containing several addictive ingredients) is a nasty habit only done by animals unfit for public exposure.
What a bunch of idiotic morons are making the rules. And you non-smokers are eating it up! Talk about uneducated......
How I learned to mind my own business:
I was walking past the mentally handicapped hospital the other day,
And all the patients were shouting, '13....13....13.'
The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a
Little gap in the planks, so I looked through to see
What was going on.....
Some idiot poked me in the eye with a stick!
Then they all started shouting '14....14....14'.......
My name is Andy, and the most comments I get from non-smokers, are women who are well off, but I know it's only because of there bf, or husband, they married into wealth, there life style is so perfect...What gets me, I served in Vietnam, and when they make comments, they have no idea of how many troops in Iraq, that smoke, giving them the freedom to live his or her life style of freedom, when we come back, these people tell us what we should do and not do, give me a brake, double standard, I bet on the back of there car says "support our troops" no they don't....
I am not disputing the smoking contributes to ill health, but RADON is far more dangerous, more people are exposed, yet little is done about it. It is a natural gas, in most homes and the tighter the seal and insulation in a home the worse it is.
Mercury in the new light bulbs that will save the world seem to be okay too.
Just remember, that the US Constitutional court tested procedures to control behavior of a free people will be expanded to food, driving, homes, jobs, and any other area of human endeavor. Total cradle to grave control is the gooberments agenda.
